Everton vs Liverpool 22/06/20
22 June 2020
Liverpool head to Goodison Park to take on their cross-town rivals Everton in the 236th Merseyside derby, looking to stretch their unbeaten run in their Premier League (PL) H2Hs to 19 games (W8, D10).
The hosts had failed to pick up a win in three consecutive league fixtures (D1, L2) before the coronavirus pandemic halted the club season in England, conceding over 2.5 goals in both of their defeats in that period. The Toffees face an uphill task of bringing their winless run to an end, given that they’ve failed to beat their cross-town rivals in their last eight top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (D6, L2), with all but one of those clashes featuring under 2.5 goals. Also, lapses of concentration after the halftime break have seen Everton ship 73.33% (11) of 15 PL home goals conceded against in the second half of play.
Meanwhile, runaway league leaders have won nine of ten PL matches since the turn of the year (L1), with seven of those results (win/loss) seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet. However, away from home, the Reds have suffered three consecutive defeats ‘to nil’ in all competitions. Still, Jurgen Klopp’s men have racked up more PL away wins than any other English side this term, although eight of their 12 league victories on the road have yielded a single-goal margin. Moreover, Liverpool tend to open their away games in style, having broken the deadlock in 11 of 14 PL road trips so far (78.57%).
