Espanyol vs Sevilla 19/08/19

19 August 2019

Espanyol and Sevilla will face-off at the RCDE Stadium for their opening match of the 2019-20 La Liga season.

The hosts have done extremely well in their Europa League Qualifiers this summer, securing four triumphs in as many outings. Notably, all of those wins have seen them score three or more goals, while three have been accompanied by a clean sheet. Success in Europe has coincided with Espanyol’s run of good form from the final stage of last season (W5, D4), with all five of those wins seeing them score 2+ match goals. Periquitos have won three of their previous five LL home games (W3, D2), while their last defeat at this venue arrived precisely against Sevilla (1-0). In fact, Sevilla don’t suit Espanyol very well lately, as Blanquiazules failed to pick up a win in their last four H2Hs with the Andalusians (D1, L3).

Meanwhile, it’s been a busy summer for the visitors, who have featured in ten pre-season games, winning eight of them (W8, D1, L1). But, Los Hispalenses’ massive problems when away from home in 2019 have seen them suffer seven losses in ten LL trips since the turn of the year (W2, D1, L7), six of which have witnessed Sevilla fail to find the back of the net. Moreover, just 23 of a total of 62 goals Los Rojiblancos have scored throughout the last LL campaign have come away from home (37.09%). Probably the only consolation for Julen Lopetegui is that Sevilla came off better in their last two visits here, beating Espanyol to nil on both occasions.
