Escobedo vs Sevilla 12/01/20

12 January 2020

Sevilla head to the Estadio Eusebio Arce to tackle lower-league outfit Escobedo in a Copa del Rey fixture this weekend.

Currently competing in the Tercera División – Group 3, the hosts practically stand no chance against high-flying Sevilla, but they do have a solid recent form to draw inspiration from in their bid to pull off a miracle (W3, D2). While both of their wins in that period saw both teams hit the net, all three of their victories have witnessed Escobedo keep a blank sheet. Interestingly, all eight of their competitive home triumphs this season have been accompanied by a clean sheet, with five of them seeing Escobedo score over 2.5 match goals. Also, Pablo Casar’s men have made it into the last 32 thanks to a 2-0 home win over Malaga, with both of their goals in that encounter coming in the second half.

Sevilla have overseen an upturn in results recently, going from back-to-back competitive failures to three straight matches without a loss (W2, D1). While both of their wins during that five-game sequence saw them beat their rivals to nil, both of their failures in that period have witnessed Julen Lopetegui’s men collapse via a single-goal margin and ship one goal apiece beyond the hour mark. Although they’ve wrapped up three wins in their last five competitive away fixtures (D1, L1), Los Nervionenses’ problems in the attacking third have seen them score one goal or less in four of those matches. Sevilla’s main strength in the recent period has been their airtight defense that has kept a clean sheet in three of their last six road trips, restricting their opponents to precisely one goal per match in the other three.
