Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Monchengladbach 17/02/19

17 February 2019

Winless in their last three Bundesliga outings (D3) Eintracht Frankfurt host Borussia Monchengladbach to the Commerzbank-Arena obliged to wrap up all three points to keep their chances of qualifying for the Champions League alive.

Currently sitting five points beyond fourth-placed RB Leipzig, victory is imperative for the Eagles who are keen to settle the score with Monchengladbach after a 3-1 loss in the first half of the season. The hosts come into this meeting following a thrilling 2-2 road draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League, which was the tenth time in their previous 11 games across all competitions that they’ve struggled to preserve a clean slate. Another troubling fact for Adi Hutter is that his men have pulled off just two triumphs in their last five BL home clashes (W2, D1, L2) failing to keep a clean sheet in each. Led by the Bundesliga top-scorer Luka Jovic, Eintracht have scored 2+ match goals in all five of their BL home wins this term but unfortunately for them, the defense has failed to follow the tempo. Their defensive frailties have seen them concede in nine of ten BL home meetings this campaign, allowing over 1.5 goals per match three times in the process.

Meanwhile, two defeats in their last five Bundesliga outings (W3, D2) have shipped the visitors eight points behind the leaders Borussia Dortmund. Far more comfortable at home, the Borussians have already suffered four defeats on 11 BL road trips this term (W4, D3, L4) although they’ve entered this fixture carrying back-to-back BL away wins in which they’ve preserved a clean slate. Dieter Hecking’s men have lost all four of their road BL clashes in which they’ve conceded 2+ match goals while won three of four in which they’ve managed to keep a clean sheet. Still, a potential worry for the Foals is that they’ve failed to find the back of the net three times in their last four visits to the Commerzbank-Arena although they’ve restricted Frankfurt to a maximum of one match goal three times in the process.
