Egypt vs Tanzania 14/06/19
14 June 2019
Egypt’s preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations continue this week as they host Tanzania to the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria for a friendly meeting.
The hosts have struggled to impress at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finishing their participation in the final tournament in the group stage with three defeats and a -3 goal difference (S3, C6). However, they have managed to bounce back after returning from Russia, having racked up a four-game winning streak in the qualifications for the Africa Cup of Nations before playing out a 1-1 draw with Niger to secure the second spot in their respective qualifying group and advance to the final tournament. Still, the Pharaohs go into this encounter off the back of a narrow 1-0 loss to Nigeria that took place back in March.
Meanwhile, desperate to snap a disastrous five-game losing run against Egypt in H2Hs, the visitors have pulled off a 3-0 win over Uganda last time out to boost their confidence ahead of the upcoming challenge. However, the Taifa Stars have endured mixed fortunes over the past ten months (W2, D1, L2), with none of those games saw both teams score although three of them have featured under 2.5 goals. Tanzania’s dreadful away form could be a major setback here, as Emmanuel Amunike’s men failed to wrap up three points in all ten of their previous road trips (D4, L6), scoring one goal or less in nine of those fixtures.
