Egypt vs Guinea 17/06/19
17 June 2019
Egypt host Guinea to the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria for the final warm-up match ahead of their participation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The hosts clinched a narrow 1-0 win over Tanzania a few days ago, which was their first triumph following two straight failures (D1, L1), but it was also their third consecutive match that has featured under 2.5 goals. The Pharaoh have enjoyed a purple patch of form since exiting the World Cup, having racked up a four-game winning streak across a two-month period. Notably, Javier Aguirre’s men have netted over 1.5 match goals in all four of those triumphs, scoring a total of 15 goals while conceding three in the process. Egypt will now be eager to post their third victory in the fourth H2H meeting with Guinea in the 21st century (W2, D1).
Meanwhile, the visitors sustained a 1-0 defeat to Benin a few days ago, stretching their winless run to four games (D3, L1). Frustratingly for them, the National Elephants have struggled to score over 1.5 match goals across all of those outings, although restricting their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match in each. Still, Guinea finished top of their respective qualifying group without a single loss (W3, D3), with five of their six games in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers featuring under 2.5 goals. Guinea’s dreadful away form over the past 22 months could be a major influence here (W1, D2, L6), especially considering they’ve scored one goal or less across all nine of those clashes.
