Ecuador vs Chile 22/06/19

22 June 2019

Ecuador and Chile go head-to-head at Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador in the second round of Copa America fixtures.

Ecuador were hammered 4-0 by Uruguay on the opening matchday, which extended their winless run to five games (D2, L3). Unprolific in the final third, La Tricolor have scored just three goals in five games in 2019, failing to find the net on three occasions across that period. Hernán Darío Gómez can’t be happy with his team’s defensive output neither, considering his players have struggled to keep a clean sheet in five of their last six outings, allowing over 1.5 match goals twice though. Another potential worry for Ecuador could be that they’ve lost three of their previous four H2H meetings with Chile (W1, L3), conceding precisely two goals per match each time.

Meanwhile, the Chilean’s road to their third successive Copa America title has begun with a stunning 4-0 triumph over Japan, which was their first win in a competitive game since October 2017. It was also their second victory in their fourth match in 2019 (W2, D1, L1), and also the third one that has produced over 2.5 goals. An encouraging fact for Reinaldo Rueda is that La Roja managed to keep a clean sheet after five straight matches in which they’ve conceded at least one goal. Also, El equipo de todos have outplayed Ecuador in all three of their Copa America H2Hs in the 21st century, netting two or more goals each time.
