DC United vs Olympique de Marseille 24/07/19
24 July 2019
DC United welcome Olympique de Marseille to Audi Field for a friendly fixture, hoping to find a way out of a small crisis.
Although they reside third in the MLS East Conference, the Black-and-Red are not enjoying the best of times. A period of minor crisis has seen DC United pull off just one win in their last five league outings (W1, D2, L2), with three of those matches featuring under 2.5 goals. Also, four of those games have featured goals in both halves, with Ben Olsen’s players conceding at least one goal in each. But, unbeaten in their last three home games (W1, D2), the hosts will fancy their chances against the Ligue 1 giants.
Marseille’s pre-season preparations are in full swing as they gear up for their sixth fixture of the summer. Les Phocéens have endured mixed fortunes so far (W3, L2), with four of those games featuring over 2.5 goals. After suffering two disappointing defeats to the English lower-league side Accrington and the Scottish outfit Rangers, Les Olympiens have outplayed two domestic rivals, Bordeaux and St. Etienne, both by the identical 2-1 scoreline. Interestingly, a slow start to the game has seen Marseille fail to lead at the halftime break in their last ten outings.
