Leading the way in the K League 1 after finishing eighth last term, Daejeon’s form has recently hit a downward trajectory as they head into proceedings on a three-game winless league run (D2, L1). Only one goal scored across those three matches points at their misfiring frontline as the team’s weakest link, even though they boast the division’s joint-best scoring record this season (21). However, goals have been hard to come by for Hwang Sun-hong’s side at home, where they’ve only averaged 0.71 per game across their opening five home league outings. Things can hardly change against Daegu, a side they had netted under 1.5 goals against in 13 consecutive meetings before a 2-1 win in their most recent H2H in March. 

Meanwhile, a narrow 1-0 home loss to Seoul last time out left Daegu nailed to the bottom of the table, extending their winless league streak to three matches (D1, L2). Only three wins from the first 14 top-flight games paint a bleak picture (D2, L9), and so does the visitors’ leaky backline. Indeed, they’ve conceded a league joint-high 22 goals – 14 of which came on the road, where they’ve yet to taste victory this season (D2, L5). If it’s any consolation, they held K League 1 debutants Anyang to a 2-2 draw on their last road trip, ending a dismal run of five consecutive away league defeats – all of which saw them capitulate multiple times.
