Colombia vs Chile 29/06/19
29 June 2019
Colombia and Chile will battle their way to the Copa America semi-finals when the two nations meet at the Arena Corinthians for a quarter-finals clash.
The Columbians have made it to the quarter-finals as the only nation at the competition to secure all three wins in the group stage, which saw them finish top of Group B, ahead of Argentina. Additionally, along with Brazil, Los Cafeteros are the only team that has kept a clean sheet in the opening three games, as they have now prevented their rivals from scoring in five straight outings. For Colombia, the most of action takes place in the second half, with five of their last seven goals coming after the halftime break. Although both of Colombia’s last wins have ended with the same 1-0 scoreline, Carlos Queiroz’s players have shown great composure in the final third over the past ten months, netting over 1.5 goals per match in six of their total of nine triumphs in the post-World Cup period.
Meanwhile, Chile’s strong start to the tournament has seen them sweep Japan aside with a stunning 4-0 triumph prior to a 2-1 win over Ecuador. However, La Roja eventually finished second in Group C after suffering a narrow 1-0 loss to Uruguay in the final round of the group stage fixtures. A failure against Uruguay has brought Chile’s four-game unbeaten run to a halt (W3, D1), and it was also the first time that Reinaldo Rueda’s men struggled to find the net after eight consecutive matches. They will now try to replicate the same success from 2016 when they dumped Colombia out of Copa America in the semi-finals and stretch their unbeaten run in H2H meetings to five games (W1, D3).
