Club Brugge vs Real Madrid 12/12/19

12 December 2019

Club Brugge welcome Real Madrid to the Jan Breydel Stadion for their final match of the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League (CL) group stage.

Although they have no chance of securing a place in the CL knockout stage, the hosts can continue their European adventure in the EL if they avoid defeat here and PSG prevent Galatasaray from getting three points. Winless in the opening five group matches (D3, L2), the Belgian outfit managed one of the biggest sensations in this season’s CL by holding Real to a 2-2 draw at the Bernabeu in the reverse fixture. For Brugge, goals have been at a premium in the CL recently, as they’ve drawn a blank in five of their last seven matches in the competition proper. What’s more, the Blauw-Zwart’s struggling in Europe’s top-tier competition has seen them pick up just three wins in 23 of their previous outings (W3, D7, L13).

Meanwhile, the resurgent visitors have racked up a four-game unbeaten CL run following a dismal 3-0 away loss to PSG (W2, D2), scoring at least two goals in three of those matches. Additionally, Los Blancos have sealed 15 wins in their last 24 CL away games (W15, D4, L5). A good run of form puts the La Liga giants as odds-on favorites to win here, as Real pulled off three straight road victories ahead of this trip. However, they have not been as good as expected in their latest trips to Belgium, suffering six defeats in their last eight visits to the country (W1, D1, L6). Also, Zinedine Zidane’s men have lost three of their previous eight CL matches, allowing at least three goals in each of those failures.
