Chelsea vs Leicester City 18/08/19

18 August 2019

Franck Lampard’s Chelsea will try to secure their first competitive triumph this season when they take on Leicester City at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

The hosts have suffered a humiliating 4-0 away loss to Manchester United on the opening Premier League matchday before being edged out by Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup last time out. Still, the Blues are unbeaten at home in the PL since the turn of the year having pulled off six wins in eight home league outings in 2019 (W6, D2). While all six of those victories saw the Pensioners score at least two goals, five have been accompanied by a clean sheet. However, they have failed to score in their previous two home H2Hs with Leicester (D1, L1) losing 1-0 to the Foxes last season here.

Meanwhile, the visitors were held to a 0-0 home draw by Wolverhampton last time out, which was their second successive goalless PL stalemate following the one with Chelsea in the final game of last season. The Foxes have struggled to impress when away from home in 2019, having won just three of their ten trips across all competitions (W3, D2, L5). Still, those games have not been short of entertainment, as eight of them saw both teams score while seven featured over 2.5 goals. It won’t be a simple task for Leicester to win here though as they’ve managed just one triumph in their previous nine visits here (W1, D2, L6).
