Chelsea vs Brighton & Hove Albion 28/09/19

28 September 2019

Chelsea will welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Stamford Bridge desperate to post their elusive first Premier League (PL) home triumph this term.

It’s so far been a frustrating league campaign for the hosts (W2, D2, L2), who go into this clash off the back of a stunning 7-1 home triumph over lower-league side Grimsby in the Carabao Cup. However, the Blues have lost their last PL fixture, suffering a 2-1 home defeat to Liverpool, which left them winless in three PL home games this term (D2, L1). Curiously, all of Chelsea’s PL home matches this season have seen both teams score, with four of five goals they’ve netted across those clashes coming inside the first 45 minutes. However, given that the Pensioners won both of their previous home PL H2Hs with Brighton to nil, Franck Lampard has every reason to demand a triumph here.

As for the visitors, they’ve struggled to build on a 3-0 away win over Watford in the PL curtain-raiser, failing to pick up a single win in the subsequent five league outings (D3, L2). While all of those draws featured under 2.5 goals, each of Brighton’s PL defeats this term have seen them draw a blank and concede two or more goals. Also, just one of the Seagulls’ last seven PL trips has seen both teams score, with only three of those matches producing over 2.5 goals. Unprolific when away from home, Graham Potter’s men have failed to find the net in five of those eight trips, bagging over 1.5 match goals only once in that period.
