Celta Vigo vs Valencia 20/09/20
20 September 2020
Estadio de Balaídos is the venue, as Valencia and Celta Vigo face off against each other in a potentially low-scoring La Liga affair. Four of their last five top-flight H2H clashes have featured under 2.5 goals.
Despite having a man down, Celta managed to avoid defeat against Eibar on the road on Matchday 1. However, it now means that the hosts enter this round winless in eight La Liga matches in a row (D5, L3), last season included. Additionally, Óscar García Junyent’s men have picked up just one win from six home league fixtures since the resumption of football in June (D3, L2), though none from the last four. Valencia’s visit could help shake things up a bit, as the ‘Célticos’ have run out winners in two of their previous three top-flight H2Hs held in Vigo (D1, L1). Yet, a clear majority (90.91%) of their competitive H2Hs played at this venue since 2006 have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W5, D2, L4).
Meanwhile, Valencia had to come from behind twice to beat Levante 4-2 at home on the opening matchday of the season. But, away from home in 2020, the visitors have yet to taste victory after ten La Liga trips (D2, L8), drawing a blank on seven of those occasions! One of Valencia’s weakest aspects of the game last season was a habit of slow-starting. Indeed, ‘Los Murciélagos’ conceded the opening goal in a league second-high 15 La Liga trips back in 2019/20! Unfortunately for the traveling side, a lack of ability to bounce back saw ten of those 15 matches end in a loss (W2, D3).
