Celta Vigo vs Deportivo Alaves 21/06/20

21 June 2020

Out-of-sorts Celta Vigo welcome one of the weakest La Liga (LL) away sides, Deportivo Alaves, to the Estadio de Balaídos for what might be a low-scoring contest. Indeed, each of their last four competitive H2Hs held at this venue has featured under 1.5 goals.

A 0-0 away draw with Real Valladolid last time out now means that the hosts have failed to find the back of the net in four consecutive league fixtures (D3, L1). Celta enter this round frantically looking over their shoulders, as they sit one-point clear of 18th-placed Mallorca ahead of the kick-off. However, just a single defeat from their last seven LL home matches (W2, D4) indicates the ‘Célticos’ have every right to hope that they can bring a four-game winless run in their top-flight H2Hs with Alaves to a halt (D1, L3). Yet, Óscar García Junyent’s men need to add more pace to their game in the early stages, given that they’ve managed to find the net inside the opening 15 minutes of play only once in 14 LL home games.

As for the visitors, they’ve put a three-game winless league run (D2, L1) to an end with a 2-0 home triumph over Real Sociedad last time out, which now means that three of their four previous LL results (win/loss) saw the winner on the day keep a clean sheet. But, for Alaves, goals have been at a premium recently. In fact, the ‘Babazorros’ have netted under 1.5 goals in each of their last seven LL away fixtures, with all four goals they scored during that period coming in the second half of play. In turn, Asier Garitano’s players remain one of the division’s slowest away starters, having failed to score inside the opening half an hour in all but one of their 14 LL road trips so far this term.
