Cardiff City vs Tottenham Hotspur 02/01/19

02 January 2019

Encouraged by a promising 1-0 road triumph over Leicester City, Cardiff City will welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Cardiff City Stadium seeking back-to-back Premier League triumphs for the first time this season.

The returnees have been struggling for consistency this campaign which sees them sitting 16th in the table, three points clear of the relegation zone. Cardiff’s lapses in form have seen them securing two wins while suffering two defeats in their last five Premier League outings. However, the Bluebirds have been impressive at home lately, having secured three consecutive victories prior to a 5-1 loss to Manchester United. Still, a potential worry for Niel Warnock ahead of this meeting could be that his players have failed to keep a clean sheet in nine out of their previous ten home games across all competitions, conceding a minimum of two goals per match six times in the process. Still, Cardiff have hit the back of the net in six out of last seven home clashes, scoring at least two goals per match three times during the run.

After 20 Premier League fixtures, Tottenham (W15, L5) remain the only team that is yet to play out a draw. The visitors come into this encounter after a miserable 3-1 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers that has ended their five-game Premier League winning run. Still, the Spurs (27) have collected more points on the road than any other team in the English top flight, managing nine wins on 11 road trips so far. Also, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have scored in all of their road games this campaign, notching a minimum of two goals per match four times in their last five clashes away from home. But, the fact that his players conceded on six out of their previous nine road trips could worry Pochettino, who is desperate to see his side closing the gap on Liverpool.
