Cardiff City vs Liverpool 21/04/19

21 April 2019

The Premier League relegation fighters and the title contenders go head-to-head on Sunday as Cardiff City host Liverpool to the Cardiff City Stadium.

Although a 2-0 road win over Brighton last time out has helped the hosts to halt a three-game Premier League losing run, they still have a long way to go before ensuring a top-flight status for another season. Sitting two-points adrift of 17th-placed Brighton with one game in hand, the Bluebirds come into this meeting seeking their elusive first home points against the PL’s top-six sides (L5). Neil Warnock’s players have not only lost all five home H2Hs with the PL’s elite, but they’ve conceded 3+ match goals four times across those clashes while managing to net 2+ match goals only once. However, Warnock has to lean on the fact his men have collected 20 of a total of 31 of their PL points at home (64.52%) although they’ve won just two of seven of their PL home games since the turn of the year (W2, D1, L4).

On the other hand, the visitors will feature their second successive Champions League semi-final after dumping Porto out of the competition 6-1 on aggregate. Midweek’s 4-1 road win over the Portuguese giants has seen the Reds stretching their winning run to eight games across all competitions while extending their unbeaten streak to 17 competitive matches (W12, D5). Additionally, the Merseysiders seem to have managed to overcome their difficulties on the road, having gone from three straight PL away draws to back-to-back victories. Moreover, Jurgen Klopp’s players have been ruthless against the PL’s bottom-five sides this term, pulling off all four road wins in H2H meetings with a ‘narrow’ +5 goal difference though (S7, C2).
