Canet Roussillon vs AS Monaco 06/01/19
06 January 2019
A struggling AS Monaco side has a chance to start a new year off on the right foot as they tackle a lower-league outfit Canet Roussillon at the Stade Gilbert Brutus in the Coupe de France round of 64.
Currently competing in the Championnat National 3, the French fifth-tier competition, Canet Roussillon would hardly stand a chance against the top-flight opponents although they managed to get to the penalty shoot-out against Caen back in January 2018 in this exact competition. However, William Prunier is encouraged by the fact his men have succeeded to go past the Ligue 2 side Beziers, securing a 2-1 victory before eliminating Frejus in the last round with a commanding 4-2 triumph.
Meanwhile, the Monegasques are going through a nightmarish Ligue 1 campaign as they currently sit deep in the relegation zone, having lost 11 out of the opening 18 league fixtures. However, with the arrival of Thierry Henry, last year’s runners-up have managed to pull off two wins in their last five league outings although suffering three defeats in the process. The Red and White have also eliminated Ligue 2 side Lorient in the previous Coupe de France round, securing a narrow 1-0 triumph, which was only the third time in their last 23 meetings in all competitions they’ve managed to keep a clean sheet. All of Monaco’s three victories under Henry has seen them beating their rivals to nil, with two of these wins ending with the identical 1-0 scoreline.
