Cagliari vs Lazio 27/09/20
27 September 2020
Lazio head to the Sardegna Arena to take on Cagliari for their 2020/21 Serie A opener.
A 1-1 away draw with Sassuolo in the 2019/20 curtain-raiser now means the hosts have won only once in their previous 11 Serie A matches, last season included (W1, D5, L5). Cagliari’s poor form over the past few months is a consequence of the team’s goal-scoring problems that have seen them draw a blank six times during that 11-game sequence and find the net precisely once in four of the other five. In turn, the ‘Sardinians’ have scored under 1.5 goals in five of their previous six top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (D2, L4). In fact, going back to 1994, Cagliari have netted one goal or less in 19 of 20 Serie A home H2Hs.
As for the visitors, they have stumbled out of the blocks on the back of a resumption back in mid-June, picking up only five wins from 12 Serie A fixtures post-restart (W5, D1, L6). Notably, nine of the 11 results (wins/losses) during that 12-game sequence saw the winner on the day fail to keep a clean sheet. In turn, eight of Lazio’s ten Serie A away victories arrived despite a -1 handicap back in 2019/20, with four seeing the ‘Biancocelesti’ come from behind to seal three points. Another ‘goal-friendly’ affair is well on the cards, as all five of their previous top-flight H2Hs have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet.
