Cagliari vs Lazio 17/12/19

17 December 2019

The two of the Serie A (SA) top-four sides go head-to-head in the final match of this weekend’s round of fixtures as Cagliari welcome Lazio to the Sardegna Arena.

The hosts are undoubtedly the biggest sensation of the season so far, as they come into this match after racking up an impressive 13-game unbeaten SA run (W8, D5). Additionally, they’ve picked up four straight SA home victories ahead of this clash, scoring at least three goals per match in the last three. A fragile defense could be a problem here though, as Rolando Maran’s side kept just one clean sheet in eight top-flight home games this term, conceding two or more goals on four occasions. Also, the Sardinians have failed to beat Lazio in all five of their previous SA H2Hs held here (D2, L3), allowing over 1.5 match goals in four of those clashes.

Meanwhile, the visitors are confident of extending their unbeaten run at the Sardegna Arena after putting together seven consecutive SA triumphs. Notably, all of those seven successes have seen Lazio score at least two goals, opening the scoring inside the first 45 minutes in all but one of those matches. Curiously, each of Lazio’s last three SA road trips has seen them beat their opponents via the same 2-1 scoreline after the exact 1-1 halftime score. The Biancocelesti will have to improve their defending to keep their impressive run going, given that they’ve failed to keep a blank sheet in all six of their previous SA road trips.
