Caen vs Paris Saint-Germain 20/05/18
20 May 2018
At the halfway point of the season, Caen’s place among the French top flight seemed safe and secure, but a significant drop in form and miserable results in the second half of the Ligue 1 campaign have led to the seventeenth spot on the table, and a game against Paris Saint-Germain, at the Stade Michel d’Ornano, will decide whether they’d stay in the Ligue 1 or play in the Ligue 2 next year. With a 3-point lead over Toulouse, who are residing in the danger zone, Caen will need to get at least one point to formally keep the elite status, but playing against the undisputed champions is never easy. However, after officially claiming the league title, the Parisians seem to have slowed down the tempo, as they’ve failed to win in three consecutive matches, losing 2-0 to Rennes at home last weekend, and the hosts might look to take advantage of the visitors’ indifferent approach. Although PSG won three domestic trophies, the Champions League collapse has put Unai Emery’s job in jeopardize, and a potential negative outcome against Caen could see him leaving the ranks of the French giants in the summer.
Vincent Bessat and Remy Vercoutre will watch the game from the stands due to injuries, while Dani Alves, Neymar, Thiago Silva, and Marco Verratti won’t be available for the visitors. Edinson Cavani, who had some minor muscular problems might be fit for the encounter.
