Burnley vs Arsenal 12/05/19
12 May 2019
After a stunning 4-2 away win over Valencia in the Europa League, Arsenal head towards Turf Moor to take on Burnley for the final Premier League fixture of the season.
The hosts have gone from three consecutive Premier League triumphs to three straight league games without a win (D1, L2) but have still managed to preserve their top-flight status. Although seven of their 11 PL victories have come at this venue, Sean Dyche’s men have returned just 57.50% of their total PL points at home (23 of 40). Also, the Clarets have endured mixed fortunes in their previous five PL home outings (W2, D3), with both of their wins in that period ending with the same 2-0 scoreline. Another potential worry for Burnley is that they’ve suffered four defeats in five home H2Hs with the PL’s top-six sides this term (W1, L4) failing to find the net four times across those losses.
Meanwhile, the visitors desperately need to pick up a victory here and hope Everton can beat Tottenham, as they currently trail the last Champions League promotion slot by three points. A disastrous haul of one point from their last four PL fixtures has seen Arsenal concede precisely three goals per match in three straight PL losses since late April before playing out a disappointing 1-1 home draw with Brighton last time out. What’s more, the Gunners have collected just 22 of their total of 67 PL points away from home (32.84), which has been their main problem this campaign. Unai Emery’s players have clinched only one triumph on their previous five PL road trips (W1, D1, L3), scoring one goal or less across all five of those clashes. Additionally, Arsenal’s defensive frailties have seen them concede 34 goals on the road this term, which is the sixth-worst defensive record in the PL, as they remain the only team that has managed just one away clean sheet for the entire league campaign.
