Brighton & Hove Albion vs Tottenham Hotspur 05/10/19

5 October 2019

Brighton & Hove Albion will be looking to post their elusive first Premier League (PL) win over Tottenham Hotspur when the two meet at the Amex Stadium (D1, L3).

An emphatic 3-0 away triumph over Watford in the opening fixture seems like ancient history for the hosts who are winless in six PL matches (D3, L3). Frustratingly for the home fans, the Seagulls have not won a single home game in the top-flight since the beginning of March, losing five of their last eight PL encounters at this venue (D3, L5). Interestingly, all of those draws have ended with the identical 1-1 scoreline, while four of their five defeats in that period seeing Brighton draw a blank. Brighton’s main issue this term has been the inability to bounce back after conceding the first goal. They have returned just one point from six games four PL games in which they’ve allowed the opener.

A disastrous 7-2 home thrashing by Bayern Munich in midweek’s Champions League clash has put Mauricio Pochettino’s future in London on a knife-edge, and another potential failure might end his career at Tottenham. Although the visitors secured a 2-1 home triumph over Southampton last time out, they have largely struggled to impress this term (W3, D2, L2). A victory here would see Spurs put together two PL wins for the first time since early April, but winning away from home proved to be an almost impossible task for Pochettino’s side in 2019. The London giants have pulled off just two wins in 11 PL trips since the turn of the year, both of which came in January (W2, D2, L7).
