Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester City 12/07/20

12 July 2020

Manchester City head to the Amex Stadium to take on Brighton & Hove Albion confident of posting a second consecutive Premier League triumph. The Citizens have won each of their five top-flight H2Hs since the turn of the new millennium, with all of them coming via a multiple-goal margin.

The hosts have picked up a little bit of everything in their last six Premier League games (W2, D2, L2), with just two of those clashes seeing both teams score. What’s more, the Seagulls have pulled off only one win in their seven previous league home matches (D3, L3), scoring one goal or less on six of those occasions. By extension, Graham Potter’s men have notched over 1.5 goals in just six of their 17 Premier League home fixtures this season (35.29%), with the majority (60%) of the 20 goals they’ve managed across those games arriving in the second half of play (12). Therefore, it’s not strange that only one side has shipped more opening goals on home turf than Brighton (11) so far this campaign.

Meanwhile, the visitors have endured mixed fortunes in their last seven Premier League fixtures (W4, L3), with five of those results (win/loss) seeing the winner on the day score over 1.5 goals and keep a clean sheet. However, the Sky Blues take the field after losing three consecutive league away matches, two of which saw them draw a blank. Yet, Pep Guardiola’s men seem likely to improve that disappointing form here, given that they’ve won both of their top-flight trips to Brighton in the 21st century, both by a full-time margin of over 1.5 goals. In fact, the last year’s Premier League champions tend to win with dignity on the road, as seven of their nine league triumphs away from home this term have yielded a margin of two goals or more.
