Brighton & Hove Albion vs Liverpool 12/01/19

12 January 2019

An improving Brighton & Hove Albion side welcome Liverpool to the Amex Stadium hoping to bring a five-game losing streak against the Reds to an end.

The Seagulls have gone from three straight defeats to four consecutive competitive matches without a loss (W2, D2) as they now seek back-to-back home PL triumphs following a narrow 1-0 win over Everton. Although unbeaten in their last three league encounters, Chris Hughton’s men played out two draws in that period, conceding a goal in each. Brighton’s defensive frailties have seen them failed to keep a clean sheet in four of their last five home outings allowing over 1.5 goals per match just once in that period though. Three of Brighton’s last four home league victories have ended with the identical 1-0 scoreline, with five of their previous seven home encounters producing under 2.5 goals.

Meanwhile, the Reds have lost both of their games in 2019 with the identical 2-1 scoreline. A poor opening of the year has brought Liverpool’s eight-game winning run in all competitions to an end, and it was the first time this season Alisson conceded over 1.5 goals per match twice in a row. Still, Jurgen Klopp’s men have collected 26 points on the road so far, with only Tottenham securing more away from home this campaign. Also, the Merseysiders remain the only team in the English top tier to allow over 1.5 goals per match just once in 11 road clashes this term. What’s more, four of Liverpool’s past five road wins in the Premier League have seen them score over 1.5 goals, with Tottenham (28) being the only team to score more goals on the road than the Reds (22).
