Brighton & Hove Albion vs Liverpool 09/07/20

09 July 2020

Brighton & Hove Albion take on Liverpool at the Amex Stadium seeking an elusive first win in their competitive home H2Hs (L3).

The hosts, who enter the round on the back of a 1-0 away win over dead-last Norwich City, face a formidable challenge of a Liverpool side they’ve lost to in all five of their previous top-flight H2Hs. It will be a daunting prospect for Brighton to improve that record here, given that they’ve pulled off just a single triumph from their last six Premier League home outings (D3, L2), scoring under 1.5 goals on five of those occasions. Indeed, for Brighton, goals have been at a premium lately. The Seagulls have failed to find the net in four of their six previous league matches, with two of the three goals they bagged in the other two came in the second half of play.

A 2-0 home win over Aston Villa at the weekend now means that only one of Liverpool’s last six Premier League fixtures saw both teams score (W3, D1, L2). But, the Reds travel to Brighton on a run of three league away matches without a win (D1, L2), all of which saw Jurgen Klopp’s side draw a blank. In turn, seven of their last eight Premier League away results (win/loss) have seen the winner on the day keep a clean sheet (W6, L2). Notably, seven of Liverpool’s 12 top-flight victories on the road this season have yielded a blank sheet, which has been true in their last Premier League trip to Brighton.
