Brest vs Olympique Lyonnais 26/09/19

26 September 2019

Olympique Lyonnais travel to the Stade Francis-Le Blé to take on Brest desperate to kick off a new winning streak.

The hosts proved to be a team to beat since returning to the Ligue 1 (L1), as they’ve suffered just one defeat in six L1 fixtures this term (W1, D4, L1). Brest’s only league win has come at home (a 1-0 victory over Reims), with all three of their home matches this season featuring under 2.5 goals (W1, D2). With just one home goal concede thus far, only four L1 sides boast a better defensive record than Les Ty’ Zefs. But, for Brest, goals have been at a premium so far, as their tally of five L1 goals netted this year remains the league’s second joint-lowest. Such a trend seems unlikely to end here, as Brest failed to score over 1.5 match goals in all six of their top-flight H2Hs with Lyon since the turn of the new millennium.

Meanwhile, the visitors are enduring a torrid time in the French top-flight having struggled to secure a single win in the last four league outings (D2, L2). Interestingly, both of their draws in that period saw Lyon take a one-goal lead into halftime only to blow it in the second half. Additionally, Les Gones have struggled to beat Brest in all three of their top-flight H2Hs here (D3), with all of those clashes ending with the same 1-1 scoreline. Frustratingly for Sylvinho, both of Lyon’s defeats this term have ended with the identical 1-0 scoreline with his men producing a total of four shots on target across those matches. But, if Les Gones do win here, it might see Brest concede over 2.5 goals as all four of Lyon’s previous L1 away triumphs witnessed them score precisely three goals per match.
