Brescia vs Lazio 05/01/20
5 January 2020
Fresh from the Italian Super Cup success, Lazio will be looking to continue to build momentum in 2020 when they take on out-of-sorts Brescia at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti this weekend.
The hosts finished the previous calendar year not with a bang but a whimper, picking up just one point in their last two Serie A (SA) outings ahead of the Christmas break. As a consequence, they’ve welcomed the winter break in the relegation territory, with just four victories secured in 17 top-flight fixtures. Moreover, only one of those four triumphs has come at home, with Brescia remaining the joint-weakest home side in Italy’s top tier (W1, D1, L6). Frustratingly for the home fans, each of those six failures has seen Eugenio Corini’s men concede two or more goals, with three of them seeing ‘Le Rondinelle’ draw a blank. Another disappointment seems to be on the horizon here, as Brescia have failed to find the net in all four of their previous top-flight H2Hs with Lazio, losing three of those clashes (D1, L3).
The visitors have, meanwhile, enjoyed a stellar end of 2019, racking up an eight-game winning SA run, and are currently sitting six points adrift of table-toppers Inter Milan and do have a game in hand on the Nerazzurri. Notably, each of their wins during that eight-game sequence has seen Lazio score 2+ match goals, with just one of those fixtures seeing them win the first half. Curiously, all four of Lazio’s last SA road trips have witnessed them beat their rivals via the exact 2-1 scoreline, with three of those matches seeing the identical 1-1 first-half score. Indeed, Simone Inzaghi’s men have failed to keep a blank sheet in each of their last seven SA away games, conceding over 1.5 match goals on two of those occasions.
