Brescia vs Fiorentina 22/10/19
22 October 2019
Fiorentina travel to Brescia looking to secure their elusive first Serie A (SA) triumph at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti in the 21st century (D3, L1).
Losers in the last two league outings via the same 2-1 scoreline, the hosts will try to post their first SA win against Fiorentina since 2020. They’ve lost two of four of their previous SA H2Hs (D2, L2), conceding 2+ match goals on three occasions. Interestingly, the SA returnees have lost all four league matches by a single-goal margin, trailing at halftime twice. ‘Le Rondinelle’ have ended up winning both SA games that saw them preserve a blank sheet, each by the identical 1-0 scoreline. Also, both of Brescia’s SA home fixtures this season have seen them break the deadlock in the opening ten minutes before allowing their rivals to come from behind a walk away with three points (L2).
A 2-1 home win over Sampdoria in late September turned things around for the visitors, who have gone from 18 consecutive SA matches without a win to three victories in a row. They have kept a first-half clean sheet in each of those triumphs, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime twice in the process. Also, Viola’s dismal eight-game winless SA away run (D2, L6) was brought to a halt with a 3-1 success against AC Milan, which was unfortunately for them the 12th successive SA trip that saw them concede at least one goal. It will be a daunting prospect for Fiorentina to keep a blank sheet here too, as they’ve failed to register a single clean slate in six competitive trips to Brescia since the turn of the new millennium.
