Brazil vs Canada 11/03/20
11 March 2020
The two nations still searching for their first goals at the Tournoi de France Women come face-to-face as Brazil W take on Canada W at the Stade de l’Épopée.
After playing out a goalless draw with the Netherlands in their tournament opener, Brazil succumbed 1-0 to France, as they’ve now failed to score in two consecutive outings for the first time since October 2018. A defeat to France brought Brazil’s 11-game unbeaten run to an end (90 minutes only) and saw them fail to keep a blank sheet for the first time after five straight matches. It will be a daunting prospect for the ‘Seleção’ to return to winning ways here, as they’ve lost three of their last four clashes against Canada (W1), with each of those failures yielding a single-goal margin. Their success will heavily depend on whether or not they manage to open the scoring – Brazil avoided defeat in all of their last eight matches in which they’ve scored the first goal (W7, D1).
In the meantime, Canada experienced the exact same faith as Brazil, losing 1-0 to France and drawing 0-0 with the Netherlands. As a consequence, they’ve now failed to find the net in three straight matches after scoring at least once in six games in a row. Canada’s results indicate that whoever keeps a clean sheet here is likely to come out on top. Indeed, all but two of their 20 previous results (win/loss) have seen the winner on the day keep a clean sheet, including the last ten. In turn, four of their five previous H2Hs have seen the winning side shut out the losers. Canada’s overall record against Brazil is W5, D1, L5, with no draw in the last eight H2Hs.
