Brazil vs Bolivia 15/06/19

15 June 2019

A match between Brazil and Bolivia that will take place at the Estádio do Morumbi in Sao Paulo will open the 2019 Copa America.

Deprived of the services of their standout performer Neymar, the hosts of the tournament are still favorites to lift the trophy for the first time since 2007. The eight-time Copa America champions have been going from strength to strength ever since exiting the 2018 FIFA World Cup in the quarter-finals. Tite’s men have racked up a ten-game unbeaten run since returning from Russia (W9, D1), with nine of those triumphs seeing them beat their rivals to nil. Moreover, the Seleção come into this fixture off the back of a stunning 7-0 victory over Honduras, which was the third consecutive game in which they’ve scored 2+ match goals.

Meanwhile, the visitors have never won the tournament, and they are considerable underdogs in this clash. Bolivia’s poor run of form has seen them struggle to pick up a win in seven straight outings (D3, L4), with Eduardo Villegas’ players failing to find the net five times across those games. Still, they have managed to restrict their opponents to a maximum of one goal per match on four occasions in that period. As a result, two of Bolivia’s seven games over the past nine months have featured over 2.5 goals and have seen both teams score. To make things even more difficult for La Verde, their last win over Brazil dates back to 2009, with Bolivia struggling to beat their South American rivals in all three of their previous H2Hs without scoring a single goal in the process (D1, L2).
