Bournemouth vs Tottenham Hotspur 10/07/20

10 July 2020

Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur go head-to-head at the Vitality Stadium in what could be a high-scoring Premier League affair. In fact, three of their last four top-flight H2H meetings have produced over 4.5 goals.

The hosts have failed to pick up a win in eight consecutive Premier League games ahead of this round (D1, L7), losing the last five, as they enter the match one point adrift of 17th-placed Watford. Bournemouth’s fragile backline has conceded at least once in their previous 16 league fixtures, allowing over 1.5 goals on ten of those occasions, as the Cherries lament the division’s third-worst defensive record (59 goals conceded). It won’t be an easy task for Bournemouth to improve that record now, considering they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in their last ten Premier League home fixtures, which has been true in two of four top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (W1, D1, L2).

Meanwhile, a 1-0 home win over Everton last time out now means that the visitors have scored under 1.5 goals in four of their five previous league matches (W2, D2, L1). In turn, a lack of creativity in the final third has seen Tottenham score one goal or less in five of their last six Premier League trips (W1, D2, L3), with four of six goals they netted across those contests arriving in the second half of play. Another potential worry for the London outfit could be that they’ve shipped the opening goal (if any) in nine of 16 Premier League trips this term (56.25%), pulling off a turnaround only once across such games (W1, D3, L5). Yet, Jose Mourinho can take some confidence from the fact that two of Spurs’ three Premier League away wins this campaign came against the teams occupying the five places at the bottom.
