Bournemouth vs Manchester United 02/11/19
2 November 2019
Encouraged by a 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, Manchester United will be looking to carry winning momentum to the Premier League (PL) when they take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
The hosts are enduring a challenging period having failed to pick up a win in their last four league outings (D3, L1). A much bigger problem for the Cherries is that they’ve drawn a blank in three consecutive PL matches ahead of their encounter with the side they’ve lost to in all four of their previous top-flight H2Hs meetings. Although Bournemouth lost just one of five PL home games so far, they’ve played out three draws already, all of which have come against sides sitting below Manchester United. Curiously, both of their PL home results (win/loss) have ended with the identical 3-1 scoreline, with the winners of the day opening the scoring inside the first 23 minutes.
Meanwhile, United’s sudden rise that started with a 1-0 away win over Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League sees them enter this round on a run of three consecutive wins in all competitions. A 3-1 away triumph over Norwich City last time out has brought United’s disastrous eight-game PL away winless streak to a halt (D3, L5). It was also the first time since late February that the Red Devils scored 2+ match goals per league away fixture. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have now failed to preserve a blank slate in nine consecutive PL road trips. Their inability to prevent rivals from scoring could be a major influence here, as United conceded at least one goal in three of four top-flight visits to Bournemouth.
