Borussia Monchengladbach vs Wolfsburg 23/02/19
23 February 2019
Borussia Monchengladbach welcome the unpredictable Wolfsburg team to the Borussia-Park looking to bounce back after two consecutive Bundesliga failures (D1, L1).
Barely one point in their last two BL outings has drastically diminished hosts’ chances of closing the gap on Borussia Dortmund, but a burning issue at the minute seems to be the Champions League promotion. Although they sit eight points clear of fifth-placed Bayer Leverkusen, Monchengladbach are yet to book their tickets for the most prestigious club competition in Europe. A disastrous 3-0 loss to Hertha Berlin has brought the Foals’ nine-game BL home streak to an end, and it was also the first time this season that Dieter Hecking’s men allowed over 1.5 goals in a single home clash. Still, the Prussians’ tally of six goals conceded in ten home games remains a league’s comfortable best, with Hecking’s players keeping six clean sheets so far. Another encouraging fact for the hosts is that they’ve scored 2+ match goals in all of their nine BL home victories, bagging over 2.5 goals per match five times along the way.
On the other hand, the visitors have managed to rise after a slow start of 2019, going from two straight BL defeats to three successive meetings without a loss (W2, D1). It’s interesting that 57.14% of Wolfsburg’s points came away from home, with the Wolves clinching six wins on 11 BL road trips this term (W6, D2, L3). Bruno Labbadia’s men have no problems finding the net on the road having netted 2+ match goals in six away clashes, failing to score twice though. However, they are not thrilled to tackle Monchengladbach in this crucial stage of the season as they’ve picked up just one victory on their last eight visits here (W1, D2, L5). Wolfsburg’s prolific attack and not so reliable defense have seen 64% of their road games producing over 2.5 goals, with 6 of 11 producing goals on both ends.
