Borussia Monchengladbach vs RB Leipzig 31/08/19

31 August 2019

Borussia Monchengladbach will try to secure their first Bundesliga (BL) home win since January when they take on RB Leipzig at the Borussia-Park this weekend.

Although they’ve been held to a goalless home draw by Schalke in the BL curtain-raiser, the hosts have bounced back in the following league fixture, clinching a 3-1 away win over Mainz. Still, unimpressive home performances in 2019 saw the Foals struggle for three points in nine consecutive BL home outings (D4, L5). All of those defeats have seen Monchengladbach concede two or more goals and score one goal or less. For Monchengladbach, goals have been at a premium in that sequence, as they’ve scored over 1.5 match goals only once while failing to find the net four times. Moreover, the Prussians have lost all three of their BL home H2Hs with Leipzig, all by a narrow one-goal margin.

Meanwhile, the visitors will look to build on a strong start to the season. They have won the opening two BL fixtures, scoring over 1.5 match goals on both occasions while allowing just one goal in the process. Leipzig’s last five BL trips have not lacked entertainment with the Red Bulls picking up three wins in that period (W3, D1, L1). All five of those Leipzig’s away matches have produced over 2.5 goals while four witnessed both teams score. What’s more, a very few BL sides can boast such an impressive away record in 2019 as Leipzig (W8, D1, L1), with five of those triumphs being accompanied by a clean sheet.
