Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Koln 12/03/20

12 March 2020

Borussia Mönchengladbach welcome Koln to the Borussia-Park, looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga (BL) H2Hs to five games (W3, D1).

Last weekend’s 2-1 home defeat to Borussia Dortmund has seen Mönchengladbach surrender the fourth place to Bayer Leverkusen, bringing their five-game unbeaten league run to a halt (W3, D2). However, their six consecutive BL matches have now seen both teams on the scoresheet, with five featuring over 2.5 goals. Notably, before succumbing to Dortmund, the Foals had gone unbeaten in nine BL home fixtures in a row (W8, D1). Despite their inability to keep a clean sheet at home (2/12), Marco Rose’s men have been quite successful at the Borussia-Park this season (W8, D2, L2), mainly thanks to their prolific attack. Indeed, they’ve managed over 1.5 goals in all but two of their last ten league outings here, with 61% (17) of Mönchengladbach’s 28 BL home goals scored coming in the second half of play.

Meanwhile, none of Koln’s six league matches since the turn of the year has ended in a stalemate (W4, L2), with the visitors running out winners in the last three. Also, five of those six results (win/loss) have seen the winner on the day score at least three goals and secure a multiple-goal margin success. In fact, ‘Die Geißböcke’ have been a quite entertaining team to watch when away from home this season. Nine of their 12 BL away games so far have produced over 2.5 goals, with eight seeing both teams score. Yet, each of their three top-flight trips to the sides occupying top-five spots ahead of this round has seen them lose by a margin of at least three goals and concede precisely three goals in one half.
