Borussia Monchengladbach vs Borussia Dortmund 18/05/19
18 May 2019
Two sides that have had identical returns from their last three Bundesliga fixtures (W1, D1, L1) go head-to-head at Borussia-Park as Borussia Monchengladbach take on Borussia Dortmund.
The hosts are one step away from securing a top-four finish, but they need to pick up all three points here as they currently share the fourth place with Bayer Leverkusen. But, even though they come into this meeting off the back of a 4-0 away win over Nurnberg, the Foals are not having the best of times having failed to clinch a win in three straight BL outings before (D1, L2). What’s more, Monchengladbach’s last home triumph dates back to late January, after which they’ve struggled to win in seven consecutive BL home games (D3, L4). Frustratingly for Dieter Hecking, his players have conceded over 1.5 match goals five times across those clashes, scoring one goal or less six times in the process.
Meanwhile, the visitors need a miracle to overthrow top-placed Bayern Munich as they trail the reigning champions by two points ahead of the final matchday of the season. Although they’ve endured mixed fortunes over their past six BL away games (W2, D2, L2), the Black and Yellows have provided entertainment to the fans, with five of those clashes featuring over 2.5 goals. A potential worry for Lucien Favre ahead of this trip could be that his men have conceded over 1.5 match goals in four of their last five BL away fixtures. However, an encouraging fact for the traveling side is that the BVB won all three of their previous H2H meetings with Monchengladbach at this venue, with all of those clashes being settled by a narrow one-goal margin.
