Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Borussia Dortmund 08/03/20

8 March 2020

Borussia Mönchengladbach welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Borussia-Park desperate to end their disastrous nine-game losing streak in the Bundesliga (BL) H2Hs.

Unbeaten in five straight BL fixtures (W3, D2), the hosts will also look to bring a four-game losing run in top-flight home H2Hs to a halt. Notably, four of their last five league matches have seen over 3.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet, with three of them featuring over 1.5 first-half goals. Still, a ‘goal-friendly’ Mönchengladbach’s 3-2 away win over Augsburg last time out has marked the sixth consecutive BL match in which they failed to keep a clean sheet. In turn, the Foals have conceded at least one goal in nine of their last ten BL home games, although they picked up eight wins during that stretch (D1, L1). Indeed, free-scoring Prussians have bagged over 1.5 goals in eight BL home outings in a row before being held to a 1-1 draw to TSG Hoffenheim.

Meanwhile, three consecutive league victories have put the visitors back into contention for the title, as they now trail table-toppers Bayer Munich by four points. Before last weekend’s 1-0 home win over Freiburg, ‘Die Borussen’ have scored over 1.5 goals in six successive BL outings, managing a total of 24 across those matches. Yet, although only Bayern (71) have scored more league goals than the BVB (66) so far this season, only 37.88% (25) of them came away from home. Lucien Favre’s men have been particularly sloppy in the attacking third in the first half of play, scoring just eight of their 25 away goals before the interval (32%). But, they’ve netted over 2+ goals in five of their last six BL road trips, finding the before halftime in all but one of those fixtures.
