Borussia Dortmund vs Schalke 04 16/05/20

16 May 2020

Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 go head-to-head at the Signal Iduna Park in the most highly anticipated Bundesliga (BL) fixture of the weekend.

The hosts just started picking up the pace when the coronavirus pandemic halted proceedings, putting together four consecutive league victories. Impressively, three of those four successes were accompanied by a clean sheet, with Dortmund finding the net beyond the hour mark on three of those occasions, too. Notably, Lucien Favre’s men remain the only team in the German top-flight yet to taste a home failure this season (W9, D3), with six of their nine BL home wins coming via a margin of at least four goals! But, ‘Die Borussen‘ have failed to beat Schalke in each of their previous three BL H2Hs held here (D2, L1), conceding precisely four goals per match in the last two.

On the other hand, the visitors will be desperate to bounce back when the season restarts, having struggled to pick up a single win in seven league fixtures before the pandemic gripped football (D4, L3). Schalke’s stride of disappointing results had been a consequence of their immense problems in the final third. In fact, ‘Die Königsblauen‘ had drawn a blank in five of seven matches before the season was stopped. In turn, David Wagner’s players are yet to find the net away from home in 2020 (D2, L2), with no side from the upper half of the BL table netting fewer away goals than Schalke so far (15).
