Borussia Dortmund vs Fortuna Dusseldorf 11/05/19

11 May 2019

Borussia Dortmund and Fortuna Dusseldorf go head-to-head at Signal Iduna Park, as BVB look to retaliate after a 2-1 loss in the reversed fixture.

The hosts’ hopes of claiming the Bundesliga title have vanished following a frustrating 2-2 away draw with Werder Bremen last time out, as they now trail Bayern Munich by four points, with two league fixtures left to go. Dortmund’s indifferent form in their last five BL outings (W2, D1, L2) will probably cost them the league title although they’ve still managed to entertain the fans. Notably, all five of BVB’s previous league games have produced over 2.5 goals, with four of them featuring 4+ goals. By far the most prolific home team in the German top tier (49), Lucien Favre’s men have netted 2+ match goals in all 16 of their BL home clashes this term, remaining the only BL outfit to score over 1.5 match goals in every single league game in front of home fans. But, Favre’s players have failed to impress defensively in 2019, struggling to keep a clean sheet in eight of ten competitive home matches since the turn of the year.

The visitors have had a similar path like their forthcoming rivals over their past five BL fixtures (W2, D1, L2) as they go into this meeting off the back of a 1-1 away draw with Freiburg. Far more comfortable at home, the Flingeraner have returned 41.46% of their total BL points on the road (17 of 41), as just four of their 12 BL wins have come away from home. Unsurprisingly, all of those triumphs have arrived against teams from the bottom half of the table, with Dusseldorf bagging over 1.5 match goals three times across those clashes. However, Fortuna’s defensive frailties have seen them concede at least one goal in eight of nine competitive away games in 2019, allowing over 1.5 match goals four times though.
