Borussia Dortmund vs Fortuna Dusseldorf 07/12/19

7 December 2019

Borussia Dortmund have a presentable opportunity to reduce a five-point gap on the Bundesliga (BL) toppers Borussia Monchengladbach, as they welcome an out-of-sorts Fortuna Dusseldorf side to the Signal Iduna Park.

Backed by a tight 2-1 away win over Hertha BSC last time out, the home side will be looking to stretch their unbeaten BL run to three games (W1, D1) and post back-to-back league wins for the first time this season. Even though Dortmund’s 2019/20 campaign has so far been highlighted by ups and downs, Lucien Favre’s men have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with when playing at home. They are not only undefeated in all nine of their competitive home outings this term (W7, D2), but the BVB have netted at least three goals in six of those fixtures. ‘Die Schwarzgelben’ have proved to be ‘second-half masters’ recently, with all 12 of their previous competitive home goals scored coming after the break.

Meanwhile, the visitors head to the Signal Iduna Park on a three-game winless league run (D2, L1) and are highly unlikely to post their elusive first top-flight away win over Dortmund in the 21st century (D1, L1). Dusseldorf’s run of poor form is the reason they hover one point above the relegation zone. Another massive problem for the traveling side is their dismal BL away record (W1, D2, L4). Even though they’ve found the net in all but one of their seven BL road trips, Friedhelm Funkel’s men have undone hard work in attack with some sloppy defending. Before playing out a 1-1 draw with TSG Hoffenheim, the ‘Flingeraner’ have conceded at least two goals per match in six straight BL away games.
