Borussia Dortmund vs Borussia Monchengladbach 22/12/18
22 December 2018
The two sides that have impressed the most in the Bundesliga thus far will face-off at the Signal Iduna Park as Borussia Dortmund prepare to take on Borussia Monchengladbach.
The league leaders will come into this meeting after suffering their first Bundesliga defeat this term, losing 2-1 to Fortuna Dusseldorf on the road in midweek. However, the Black and Yellows boast an almost perfect home record (W7, D1) this campaign, as they’ve racked up a three-game home winning run. Furthermore, the BVB have scored a minimum of two goals in each of their eight matches in front of the local crowd, averaging 3.38 goals scored per game, which is a comfortable Bundesliga high. However, Lucien Favre’s players already conceded ten goals at Signal Iduna Park allowing at least one goal four times in their last five encounters at home.
On the other hand, the visitors have kept a perfect home record (W8), beating Nurnberg 2-0 during midweek, which was also the third time in a row they’ve managed to keep a clean sheet. But, the Borussians’ main problem this year concerns their indifferent road form (W2, D3, L3), which has seen them collect just one point on their last two road trips. What’s more, the Foals have failed to keep a clean sheet in six out of eight road games this season, conceding 13 goals in the process. Dieter Hecking’s potential worry ahead of this encounter could be that his players lost last four road meetings with Dortmund, allowing 14 goals in their previous three H2H clashes while scoring just two in the run.
