Borussia Dortmund vs Borussia Mönchengladbach 31/10/19

31 October 2019

For the second time in less than two weeks, Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach come face-to-face, as the BVB welcome fierce rivals to the Signal Iduna Park in the Second Round of the 2019-20 DFB Pokal.

Although the hosts have run out 1-0 winners the last time these two met, they have failed to pick up a win in the subsequent two competitive outings (D1, L1). Unusually for Dortmund, they’ve drawn a blank in both of those failures. In fact, a poor run of form has seen the BVB pull off just two wins in their last eight games in all competitions (D5, L1), with both of their triumphs in that sequence witnessing Lucien Favre’s men keep a clean sheet. Considerable favorites ahead of the kick-off, ‘Die Borussen’ have racked up a six-game home winning run against Mönchengladbach, scoring 4+ match goals on half of those occasions.

Meanwhile, the visitors have improved notably since a defeat to Dortmund, avoiding failure in two competitive games in the build-up to this meeting (W1, D1). However, the Foals are winless on the road in three consecutive fixtures in all competitions (D2, L1), with both draws in that period ending with the identical 1-1 scoreline. Mönchengladbach’s away matches this season have been mostly unproductive in terms of goals, as six of their eight trips across all competitions have featured under 2.5 goals.
