Borussia Dortmund vs Bayer Leverkusen 25/02/19
25 February 2019
A massive Bundesliga clash between Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen that will take place at the Signal Iduna Park sees the two sides looking for nothing but a victory to help their causes.
Only a few weeks ago, the hosts seemed to have been marching towards the Bundesliga title, but three consecutive draws they’ve played out have allowed Bayern Munich to reduce the gap to just three points. Despite a disappointing 3-3 draw with TSG Hoffenheim, BVB still boast an almost perfect home record (W9, D2) being the only team in the German top tier that is yet to lose at home. Apart from that, Lucien Favre’s men have netted more goals at home than any other team in the Bundesliga (37), averaging 3.36 goals scored per match at the Signal Iduna Park. But, Dortmund’s inability to keep a clean sheet has seen them concede in five successive home outings across all competitions, with Favre’s players allowing over 2.5 goals per match twice in their last two home clashes.
The visitors, on the other hand, come into this meeting after suffering a shock Europa League elimination to Krasnodar, which was the third time in their previous five competitive matches that the Company XI failed to achieve a victory (W2, D2, L1). However, Peter Bosz’s men are running strong in the Bundesliga having racked up a four-game winning streak during which they’ve scored 13 while conceded just two goals. Having reduced the gap on fourth-placed RB Leipzig to just five points, Bayer have a chance to battle for the Champions League promotion if they manage to stretch a winning run here. What’s more, Leverkusen have pulled off three consecutive BL road triumphs, scoring over 2+ match goals in each.
