Bordeaux vs Olympique Lyonnais 12/09/20
12 September 2020
Bordeaux will be looking to maintain an unbeaten start to their Ligue 1 season when Olympique Lyonnais arrive at the Matmut Atlantique this week.
After being held to a goalless home draw to Nantes on the opening matchday, Bordeaux secured a comfortable 2-0 away triumph over Angers, with both of those goals arriving inside the opening half an hour of play. However, ‘Les Girondins’ have struggled to impress at home this calendar year, failing to pick up a single win from five Ligue 1 matches held at the Matmut Atlantique (D4, L1). For Bordeaux, goals have been at a premium during that five-game sequence. They netted under 1.5 goals on four of those occasions, with three of their four goals scored coming in the first half of play.
Meanwhile, the visitors, who dismantled Dijon 4-1 at home in the curtain-raiser, have won both of their previous top-flight trips to Bordeaux. Curiously, both of those triumphs saw Lyon trail at half-time. None of their five Ligue 1 away games this calendar year has ended in a draw (W3, L2), with four of those results (wins/losses) seeing the winner on the day score at least two goals. Notably, ‘Les Gones’ were the only team in Ligue 1 last season to smash a 20-goal barrier for both scored and conceded goals on the road (GF:25, GA:20). In an echo of Lyon’s ‘goal-friendly’ habit, each of their previous eight top-flight H2Hs has seen both teams score, with five featuring over 2.5 goals.
