Bologna vs Chievo Verona 09/04/19

9 April 2019

Relegation-threatened Bologna welcome dead-last Chievo Verona to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, looking to bounce back after a disastrous 4-1 road loss to Atalanta last time out.

A hammering in Bergamo has brought the hosts’ three-game Serie A winning run to an end and has also confirmed Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men are still struggling at the back. Sitting one point adrift of SA safety, Bologna desperately need to get the most out of this clash if they look to hold their top-flight status. Although Bologna conceded 47 goals so far (seventh-worst defensive tally), just 18 of those goals have come at home (38.30%). However, ‘I Rossoblu’ failed to preserve a clean slate in six of their previous seven home outings across all competitions, allowing over 1.5 goals per match four times along the way. One thing that can encourage the Greyhounds is that they’ve scored two goals per match in both of their previous SA home clashes after scoring just one in six SA home games.

On the other hand, the visitors’ defensive woes accompanied by disappointing displays in the final third makes the worst team in the Italian top tier this season. With eight league fixtures left to go, the Flying Donkeys sit 17 points below 17th-placed Empoli and will certainly play in Serie B next season. Along with Empoli, ‘I Gialloblu’ are one of two sides that have failed to secure a league triumph on the road this term (D5, L9). What’s more, no team has shipped more goals away from home than Chievo (32) this campaign, with Domenico Di Carlo’s men failing to keep a clean sheet in 13 of 15 SA road clashes. Also, Chievo’s tally of nine goals scored on the road is the league’s lowest, as they’ve struggled to find the back of the net in three of their previous four SA road trips.
