Benevento vs Internazionale 01/10/20

01 October 2020

Internazionale will be looking to maintain a 100% success rate in their Serie A H2Hs with Benevento when the two teams meet at the Stadio Ciro Vigorito this midweek.

Newly-promoted Benevento performed a miraculous comeback to beat Sampdoria 3-2 on the road after finding themselves two goals down in their first Serie A game of the season. The hosts were by far the most impressive team in Serie B last season, finishing the 2019/20 campaign 18 points clear of second-placed Crotone. However, ‘Gli Stregoni’ endured an utterly underwhelming 2017/18 Serie A season (their only previous top-flight campaign), finishing bottom of the table with a disastrous winning ratio of 15.79%. Moreover, scandalous defending also saw Filipo Inzaghi’s side concede a league-high 84 goals on an average of 2.21 goals allowed per match. Yet, five of Benevento’s six league victories back then arrived on home turf, four of which yielded a single-goal margin.

Meanwhile, two goals scored beyond the 85-minute mark saw Antonio Conte’s men complete a stunning turnaround to defeat Fiorentina 4-3 at home in their Serie A curtain-raiser. As a result, the visitors go into this clash on the back of a nine-game unbeaten Serie A run (W6, D3), with each of those six wins seeing the ‘Nerazzurri’ score over 1.5 goals. Inter’s ability to score practically at will is the reason eight of their 13 top-flight away wins back last season yielded at least a two-goal margin. In fact, only one side managed to rack up more away goals than the Milan-based outfit (41) in 2019/20. Quick out of the blocks, they were able to open the scoring in a league-high 15 trips back last season!
