Belarus vs Germany 09/06/19

9 June 2019

Belarus launch their home campaign for the EURO 2020 qualifiers as they welcome Germany to the Borisov Arena in Barysaw.

The rock-bottom hosts have endured a disastrous start to the ECQ, suffering two away defeats – 4-0 to the Netherlands and 2-1 to Northern Ireland. Previously competed in the UEFA Nations League Group D/2, White Wings have enjoyed a purple patch of form, finishing top of their respective UNL group, with a record of four wins and two draws. Notably, Igor Kriushenko’s men have completed their UNL journey without conceding a single goal while netting ten in the process. Also, Belarus have conceded just one goal in their last four home outings although netting one goal or less on three occasions in the process.

On the other hand, the visitors will try to annul a disappointing UNL campaign by securing a top-two finish in ECQ Group C. Although they come into this meeting off the back of a 3-2 away win over the Netherlands in their ECQ opener, it was Germany’s first competitive triumph since exiting the World Cup (W1, D2, L2). Die Mannschaft’s problems at the back have seen them concede at least one goal in their last seven games, with Joachim Löw’s players allowing over 1.5 match goals four times along the way. Another worrying fact for Germany is that they’ve clinched just one triumph on their previous five road trips (W1, D1, L3), although four of those matches saw both teams score and produce over 2.5 goals.
