Bayern Munich (W2) and Wolfsburg (W1, D1) will both be looking to extend their respective unbeaten Bundesliga (BL) runs when they face off at the Allianz Arena this weekend.

Having won seven of their previous eight top-flight H2Hs with Wolfsburg, home and away (W7, D1), the hosts are odds-on favorites to post their third successive BL win. Both of Bayern’s previous league victories have seen them concede precisely one goal apiece and score at least two second-half goals on each of those occasions. The reigning holders are lining up another success here, as they’ve pulled off eight triumphs in 11 competitive home matches this term (W8, D1, L2). Virtually untenable at home, the Bavarians have netted two or more goals in all but two of their competitive home games this season, scoring 3+ match goals six times in the process. A potential worry for Hans-Dieter Flick could be Bayern’s fragile defense that has failed to keep a clean sheet in all five of their previous outings in all competitions.

Meanwhile, the visitors’ upturn in results has seen them go from back-to-back BL defeats to three consecutive games without a loss in all competitions (W2, D1). Interestingly, all four of their results (win/loss) during the above sequence have come via a single-goal margin, with three of them seeing the winners on the day find the tiebreaking goal inside the final 10 minutes of play. But, Wolfsburg’s indifferent league form in their last nine BL matches could be a major influence here (W2, D3, L4). What’s more, the Wolves have failed to pick up a single win in Munich in the 21st century, losing 21 of 24 competitive away H2Hs to Bayern since the turn of the new millennium (D3, L21).
