Bayern Munich vs Werder Bremen 20/04/19

20 April 2019

The two in-form sides go head-to-head at the Allianz Arena this Saturday, as Bayern Munich tackle Werder Bremen.

An impressive run of form that has seen the hosts won eight of their last nine Bundesliga clashes (W8, D1) has helped them overthrow Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table. For the Bavarians, victory is imperative here as they currently have a one-point lead over BVB with six league fixtures left to go. Although the defending champions endured a challenging start to the season at home, they have managed to overcome difficulties and are coming into this meeting after racking up an eight-game BL home winning run. What’s more, Niko Kovac’s men have notched 5+ match goals in all three of their previous BL home games while preventing their rivals from scoring in each. To make things even more challenging for the visitors, the Reds have secured wins in all nine of their previous competitive H2Hs at this venue, netting over 1.5 goals every single time.

Meanwhile, Werder’s outstanding performances in 2019 makes them the only unbeaten BL side since the turn of the year (W6, D6). As a result, Die Werderaner fights TSG Hoffenheim for the Europa League promotion, as they currently trail Die Kraichgauer by one point. A potential problem for Florian Kohfeldt could, however, be the fact his team has pulled off only two wins in six BL away games in 2019 (W2, D4), with all four of their draws in that period ending with the same 1-1 scoreline. Werder’s problems at the back should worry Die Grün-Weißen fans considering Kohfeldt’s players have struggled to keep a clean sheet in 12 of 14 BL away fixtures conceding 2+ match goals five times though. One thing seems certain – Werder will score here, as they remain one of two teams that have netted at least one goal on every single league road trip this term.
